The beauty of humanity lies in its individuality and uniqueness. This principle holds true in the realm of plastic surgery, where not every technique applies universally. Dr. Dedhia offers variations in his Rhinoplasty procedures to cater to the diverse needs of our San Francisco Bay Area patients, ensuring that they can enhance their appearance while preserving their Ethnic identity.
The Ethnic Rhinoplasty procedure aims to minimize nasal flaws, enhance definition, size, shape, and symmetry, promote facial harmony, and safeguard one’s unique beauty and heritage.
Dr. Dedhia understands that every individual is unique and has an extensive skillset and toolbox to treat every patient’s specific goals and anatomy. Examples of Ethnic Rhinoplasty requests Dr. Dedhia frequently encounters include Asian Rhinoplasty and African American Rhinoplasty.
We use several techniques when performing this surgery, such as cartilage grafting, which can bolster nasal architecture. Asian and African American rhinoplasties often require augmentation to improve projection and tip definition. Dr. Dedhia harvests cartilage from the septum, ear, or rib, which is then carefully shaped and sewn into a specific part of the nose.
Cartilage grafting can be used to extend an under-projected, under-rotated, and poorly defined tip of the nose. Some roundness must remain, and too much narrowness should be avoided. Elevating the nasal bridge can also be performed with the help of grafting. This has the effect of narrowing the bridge of the nose by creating more definition, which must be done conservatively. Caudal septal extension grafts, crushed and diced cartilage grafts, lateral crural strut grafts, shield grafts, and alar rim grafts may be used in this type of rhinoplasty.
Asian and African American rhinoplasties can also reshape and conservatively reduce cartilage, soft tissue, and bone. These techniques can correct several issues, including flared nostrils.
