Revision Rhinoplasty Consultation

What’s the first step?

The first step in getting Revision Rhinoplasty in the San Francisco area is to contact Raj Dedhia MD Facial Plastic Surgery. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with Raj Dedhia, M.D. who will examine your nose and facial proportions, ask you questions about your medical history and lifestyle, answer any questions that you may have, and discuss the various surgical techniques that he can use for your rhinoplasty. During your visit, you will undergo photography and morphing to communicate desired changes to your nose. It’s important to be open and honest with Dr. Dedhia during your Revision Rhinoplasty consultation as this will not only allow him to make informed decisions that are tailored to your needs but will also prevent unnecessary risks.

If you are interested in moving forward with the surgery, Dr. Dedhia will create your procedure plan and our Patient Coordinator will schedule your surgical date and time. We will provide you with some necessary instructions to follow that will make your procedure safer and more successful.

What to expect on the day of Revision Rhinoplasty surgery

On the day of your Revision Rhinoplasty surgery, you can expect several steps to ensure a smooth and successful procedure. Let’s make this very precise surgery count!

Dr. Dedhia will make incisions, either inside the nostrils (closed approach) or across the columella (open approach), depending on the complexity of the procedure and the corrections needed. Once the incisions are made, he or one of our providers will carefully lift the skin and soft tissue to access the underlying nasal structures, including cartilage and bone. This is when we reshape or rearrange existing nasal cartilage to improve symmetry, projection, or nasal tip definition. If necessary, we may make precise adjustments to the nasal bones to correct deviations, asymmetry, or dorsal humps.

In some cases, revision surgery may involve reconstructing or reinforcing the nasal septum to address breathing problems or correct previous septal deviations. Cartilage grafting is often required in Revision Rhinoplasty and harvest of additional cartilage from the septum, ear, or rib may be required to achieve an optimal result. Once the desired changes are made, the incisions are meticulously closed with sutures. A nasal splint may be placed to support the nasal structures, minimize swelling, and protect the surgical site during the initial healing period.

Revision Rhinoplasty recovery

Revision Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to return home on the same day as your surgery. You can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the nose and face. Dr. Dedhia and his team will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions, including how to care for your nose, manage any discomforts, and minimize swelling. You will need to rest, keep your head elevated, and avoid laborious activities to allow your body to heal.

You may also need to wear a nasal splint or bandage to support and protect your nose as it heals. The initial swelling and bruising typically subside within the first few weeks, and the remaining swelling can take one to two years to go away before your final Revision Rhinoplasty results become apparent.

For the first three or four weeks, you should avoid any activities that may elevate your blood pressure, such as vigorous exercise, lifting, or straining. Dr. Dedhia and his team will monitor your recovery and inform you when they feel it’s safe to gradually resume your normal routine.

You should continue to wear nasal protection when performing any intense activities in order to maintain the integrity and protect your nose.
