What is a Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift, which is also referred to as an eyebrow lift or forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure that lifts your brows and, in the process, also manipulates the final placement of your forehead, tightening and eliminating wrinkles and sagging skin along the way.

A brow lift reverses aging effects on our forehead and eyebrows by either removing or changing the muscles and skin that create drooping eyebrows, forehead furrows, and frown lines in the upper facial area.

When performing a brow lift, Dr. Dedhia will tighten up your facial skin, reposition your eyebrow arch to a more elevated and flattering position, and remove forehead wrinkles.

A Brow Lift often includes one or more of these different techniques:

Endoscopic Lift

This procedure involves four small incisions hidden within the hair and can lift everything from the hairline to the eyebrows. It tightens and smoothens the entire forehead while lifting the eyebrow area to “open up” your upper face.

Temple Lift or Lateral Brow lift

The Temple Brow Lift typically uses an endoscopic approach to elevate just the lateral portion, or tail, of the eyebrow. Often times this is the only portion of the eyebrow and forehead that needs lifting and can improve the hooding of brow skin over the eyelids.

Pretrichial or Hairline Lift

A pretrichial, or hairline incision, a brow lift is done by creating an incision along the hairline and removing a strip of skin along the cut. This procedure is ideal for those with a high forehead, who want to shorten it whilst also lifting their eyebrows. The incision is designed such that hair grows through the incision and helps camouflage the scar.

Coronal Lift (or Classic Lift)

In a Coronal brow lift or classic lift, the incision is made on the crown of your head, further back in the hairline. While this method will hide the incision well, it will not decrease the forehead height, or may even increase the height of the forehead. Therefore, this may not be an ideal approach in patients with a high hairline or seeking hairline lowering during their brow lift.

Mid-forehead Lift or Indirect Brow Lift

The mid-forehead lift or indirect brow lift places incision within wrinkles of the forehead and is ideal for patients with deep forehead creases and heavy brows. It is often used in older patients with heavy brows.

Brow Lift Consultation

What’s the first step?

If you are looking into a Brow Lift in San Francisco, CA, your first step is to schedule your consultation with dual board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Raj Dedhia. During the appointment, Dr. Dedhia will discuss your medical history, your aesthetic preferences, individual needs, and desired results and expectations. He will then examine your face and forehead.

If choose to move forward with the procedure, Dr. Dedhia will create your surgical plan, which will include the planned technique, type of anesthesia, and every other aspect of the procedure. If you are satisfied with the plan, you will meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule your surgery, discuss pricing options, and also receive any pre-operative instructions.

What to expect on the day of Brow Lift surgery

On the day of your Brow Lift surgery in San Francisco, Dr. Dedhia and his friendly staff will welcome you, and go over your procedure one more time in case of any last-minute questions and/or concerns. To help your procedure be as painless as possible, Dr. Dedhia will administer your local anesthesia or an anesthetist will be brought in to deliver your general anesthesia, depending on what was discussed during your consultation.

Once you are sedated, Dr. Dedhia will begin your surgery using the techniques that were discussed during the consultation. Please refer to the techniques mentioned above.

A Brow Lift will typically take between 45 minutes and an hour and a half.

Brow Lift Recovery

After the surgery, Dr. Dedhia and his staff will monitor you in the recovery room as you awaken from the effects of sedation. We recommend you have family or a friend drive you home to be safe.

Post-surgery, there will be some expected mild swelling and bruising, which should subside over the coming days. You will be provided post-operative instructions that will help make your recovery as easy and successful as possible.

During the first week after your procedure, you are encouraged to have minimal activity, routinely apply ice to your forehead, and keep your head elevated to reduce the amount of swelling. You may go on some light walks, as well as up and down stairs, on the first day post-surgery to prevent the formation of any blood clots but we encourage you to take a few weeks off of work and only return to full activity after having recovered.

Brow Lift cost
